Get honest answers to questions we often get asked.
Why should I engage a lawyer, I haven’t done anything wrong?
Lawyers do more than help when you find yourself in strife. A large part of what we do is to prevent you from getting into strife in the first place. Lawyers help their clients by:
- Identifying and assessing risk
- Developing strategies to minimise risk
- Providing independent advice
- Presenting different alternatives
- Helping you understand your rights and obligations.
We love helping prevent problems. Engaging a lawyer in the early stages of a transaction or setting up a business can save you loads of time, money and stress in the long run and free up time so you can grow your business.
Can’t I just download a template online
If you had a broken leg would you download a ‘how to’ guide to fix it?’ Or would you go to the doctor? The internet is full of ‘questionable’ material and the law is complex. The law is always changing and the repercussions if you get something wrong, like with that broken leg, can be life-changing. Lawyers spend their entire careers learning and studying the law and know what to look for, be aware of and what to do. In order for a lawyer to renew their licence to practice each year they are required to undertake numerous hours of legal education to ensure they are kept up to date with changes in policies, laws and best practices.
Do you charge by the minute?
While many of our services are provided on a ‘fixed fee’ basis, at times we will invoice on a ‘time basis’. The pricing structure for a matter will always be discussed with you and your approval will be obtained before we commence working our magic.
What are your opening hours?
Our ‘normal’ office hours are 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday. However, we do provide a flexible service and can accommodate meetings and calls outside of these hours, making it easy to schedule your ‘legals’ around your ‘life’ commitments.
Can you come to me?
We offer a mobile service and can meet you at your home, place of business or favourite café or can arrange a teleconference – whatever works best for you!
